Support for the People of Ukraine
Hart Male Voice Choir recently demonstrated unanimous support for the desperate people of Ukraine who have been devastated by the invasion of the Russian military. Too many innocent people, civilians, and children alike, have been injured or killed, with close on two million driven from their own country. Faced with such a terrible disaster the whole Hart Male Voice Choir agreed to help and support these beleaguered people in any way they could. At short notice Chairman Mike Morgan agreed to hold an April Fund Raising concert in Odiham, where the choir is based.
The beautiful setting for the concert was in All Saints Church which was made available to the choir for no hire fee. The concert itself was a free entry event with a retiring collection at the end of the evening, so all the proceeds raised from the event could be sent directly to the Ukraine arm of the Red Cross.
The concert programme was sensitively compiled by Music Director Kevin Jacot, to reflect the sombre mood of the moment. There was drama, sadness and poignancy with uplifting songs of hope for the future of Ukraine.
As expected the choir rose to the occasion and sang beautifully. They were encouraged by a hugely enthusiastic audience who showed their appreciation with great applause and generous donations to the retiring collection. This wonderful audience of nearly 200 mainly local Odiham people, contributed to a grand final total of £3162 for humanitarian aid on the ground in the Ukraine.
This was a successful and emotional evening for everyone involved.
